ADOPTIONS
We match animals with people based on general lifestyle and the type of care that you can provide.

Our Adoption Agreement includes the following conditions:
• If you adopt an "indoor only" cat, you agree to keep your cat within the safe confines of your home unless your cat is on a harness, in a carrier, or in a safe, screened and protected area. An "indoor/outdoor" cat may be allowed out in a safe environment.

• You will feed your cat a wholesome diet and you will keep your cat clean, well groomed and free from parasites. You will provide your cat with a safe and sanitary environment and will devote a reasonable amount of time for daily companionship with your cat.

• You will give your cat prompt and professional medical attention whenever necessary, and will provide your cat with a yearly check-up including teeth, general health, and booster shots. If your cat becomes ill your will notify NCHS.

• If for any reason you are unable to keep your cat - at any time in the future - you will notify NCHS by calling (805) 466-5403 and make arrangements for the cat's return.

• You will notify NCHS if you change your address or telephone number (NCHS may wish to visit your cat).

• You understand that you are taking your cat for life (possibly 20 or more years). You will make proper provisions for your cat in case of any personal and extreme emergency.

• You understand that NCHS cannot guarantee the health (including upper respiratory, ringworm, etc.), temperament, or training of your cat and agree to release NCHS from all liability once your cat is in your possession.

• You understand that if, for any reason, this adoption does not work out, you can return your cat to NCHS within 30 days and receive a full refund upon presentation of the Adoption Agreement.

• You agree to not have your cat declawed.

• California Sate Law requires that all cats that go through the doors of North County Humane Society be spayed/neutered. Kittens too young to be spayed or neutered upon adoption require a $250.00 deposit refundable when the kitten is spayed or neutered. This deposit is not deposited into any bank account and is returned to the adopter upon presentation of altering receipt.

• If you fail to comply with the terms of the Adoption Agreement, you will surrender the cat to NCHS upon demand.
You may print out our Adoption Application, complete it and bring it with you when you come in to consider adopting an animal.

Featured Cats

Please note that a particular animal may be adopted by the time you see this. If you see an animal that interests you, please visit the shelter to see if that animal - or one of our many other adoptable animals - is available.

MIKO is a 13 year old DMH gray tabby. Very affectionate! Gives tiny little love bites. Not okay with dogs, but would be okay with another female cat: male cats not recommended.
GLORY is a medium haired solid white female kitty. As you can see from her picure, she had to have her ears removed because of skin cancer, just like people. Glory is a lovely little girl about 4 years old. She is waiting for you to come and take her home and she has a beautiful present for you. She insisted that her picutre be taken with the present for additional incentive. We told her that she was 'present' enough.
PARTNER is10 year old DSH white with grey spots, beautiful male with blue eyes. No dogs. Loves attention and really prefers to be the only pet. Has dominance issues with other cats.
AKIRA (meaning intelligent) is a DSH black and white female about 9 months old.  Born to a feral mom, she was placed in foster care while her mom was spayed and released onto the feral cat sanctuary.  She was given her name because she is extremely smart.  She was the first to eat, to recognize her name and the first to respond.  Akira make a wonderful and responsive companion.  She is sweet, social and would adapt well to children and other cats.

BURKE is a lynx point Siamese. He is about 3 years old and is a good-looker if there ever was one. His cool blue eyes can look into your soul and read your every mood. He will be your perfect and constant companion, if you just give him the chance. Come on, come and look into his eyes and see if you can resist him.
RUSTY is a neat cat! He is a 3 year old brown tabby with white. He is very playful and affectionate. Rusty found us - he showed up on our doorstep one fine morning.
CLANCY is an all black 4 year old short hair male loves to be with other cats. He has many male cat friends but gets alone great with all the other cats.
DION is the most mellow of young male cats you'll ever fall in love with. With his handsome long grey and white coat, he's easily one of the sweetest and kindest kitties we've ever met.

STARLIGHT is a 10 year old DSH Russian Blue female, with one eye. She is a special needs indoor only kitty!! Does not do well with children or other pets.   Needs to be an "only child". SIDARTHA is about 6 years old and is a solid black short-haired neutered male. Although his personality is enough to set him apart, the bonus is he is a polydactyl. (Seven toes on his front paws). He looks like he is ready for snow. Sidartha has numerous things to say throughout the day and has not trouble in commenting on all the things you do. He gets along well with other cats. He is a perfect catch. ASHA is a 1 year old female Russian Blue kitty. She tested positive for FELV and needs either a home with another FELV positive cat or a single cat household. BECCA is a gorgeous medium long hair brown tabby. This 3 year old ball of luxurious fur gets along well with other cats and people. She has a lot of feisty playfulness in her and would do well with older children and adults.

CRICKET is a short haired black and white manx female, about 5 years old. She was abandoned in the hills and trapped by a caring man who was worried about her. Cricket would do well as an indoor/outdoor kitty once she gets used to her new home.
GREGORY is a handsome Russian Blue with the softest, silkiest coat you can imagine. He is two years old and is very affectionate and playful. He loves children but isnot sure about dogs! He'd do best going to a home wiht a buddy to keep him company.
PUFF 'the magic dragon' is a absolutely great kitty. He came to us from animal services diagnosed as terminal. Acutally, puff had a growth in is inner ear, and once removed, is doing quite well. He is a beautiful long haired orange and white male. Puff is quiet and loving and is hanging around the shelter until his person comes looking for him. What are you waiting for? He is here.
GATOR is a beautiful medium haired young gray male was left in an apartment to fend for himself when his owners moved out. He's slightly overwhelmed with the number of cats he's suddenly been placed among, but he's gentle and friendly and not at all aggressive. He'd probably do best in a home with one or two other cats , or even as an only child.
MIKEY is a somewhat shy 3 year old orange male tabby. All he really needs is some attention to become more sure of himself. He's gentle and sweet.
DELLA is an all black medium long hair female, 6 years young! She loves people. She likes to help in the office and is very good with paper work. Maybe she can help you with her adoption application!
GOOSE is a DSH black and white male about 8 month old.  He is sure a handful, but will always keep you laughing.  His kittenish antics will keep you amused day in and day out.  He should have a house with other cats to keep him busy while you are away.
TY is a DSH brown tabby about 10 months old.  He is an easy going fellow who loves people just as much as he loves his friends in the shelter.  He has a soft touch and a gentle way about him.  Would do well with other cats and with children.  He makes you want to reach out and touch him.
MIMI just wants a quiet home to share her love with. She is an 8 year old return due to her mother/guardian passing away. She doesn't mind other cats as long as she has her a place to call her own.
RHIANNA is a beautiful buff tabby who was a mother in 2004 and is about five years old. She loves walking around with you and enjoys sitting in your lap. She is absolutely wonderful with children and other cats.
